CEA: a key player in science and technology

The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is a key player in research, development and innovation in four main areas:
    •            > defense and security,
  •            > low carbon energies (nuclear and renewable energies),
  •            > technological research for industry,
  •            > fundamental research in the physical sciences and life sciences.
  • Drawing on its widely acknowledged expertise, CEA actively participates in collaborative projects with a large number of academic and industrial partners.

CEA main figures (2018)

  • CEA ranked 3rd in the ​Derwent Top 100 Global Innovators 2018-19 report.
  • 10 research campuses in France, with 19,925 technicians, engineers, researchers and staff, and 54 framework agreements with universities and schools
  • 5,045 publications in peer-reviewed journals and 704 priority patents filed in 2018
  • 1,181 PhD students and 170 postdoctoral fellows.
